About Swan Transport
Introduction
Geoff Swan started Swan Transport in August of 1981 and has been providing customers Australia wide with a reliable, professional and personalised service since the company began. Geoff grew up in country Victoria, and from a very young age worked alongside his father operating machinery and driving trucks. He inherited his father’s strong work ethic, love of trucks and operating machinery and began his business career with the purchase of an early model 1418 Mercedes Benz prime mover and flat top trailer and began moving general freight.
As the years have gone by Geoff developed a special interest in moving over dimensional freight, this has now lead to the purchase of highly specialised equipment to move high, long and wide loads.
This equipment includes:
- 4 x 8 Rear steer jinker
- 70 tonne beam set
- 3 x 4 steerable jinker
- 1 x 4 single axle dolly
- 2 x 4 dolly
- 2 x 8 dolly
- Extendable deck widening low loader
- Variety of low loaders are available upon request
In addition to the specialised equipment Swan Transport Services has available, Geoff is committed to providing clients with a complete service from start to finish, with all aspects undertaken personally by Geoff himself. Geoff organises craneage, storage, shipping and liaises with all of the appropriate authorities Australia wide to organise permits for the movement of any oversized loads.
Swan Transport Services value sustainable practices and therefore all diesel equipment has LPG to assist in a lower carbon footprint
Geoff has the following industry accreditations:
- National Heavy Vehicle Assessment Scheme
- WA Heavy Haulage Accreditation
- Fatigue Management
SPECIALISED LOAD PROFILE
Geoff endeavours to meet and exceed his client’s needs and his personal philosophy is that when you move a load you take it upon yourself to deliver the goods in the same condition as when it was dispatched, in a cost effective and timely manner.
Geoff recently organised the movement of a cooling tower for HF Hand Steel Fabricators based at Kempsey NSW to Portland VIC. The clients had very specific needs which presented many challenges for organising transportation. The overall dimensions of the load were 46 metres long, 5.3 metres high and 5.3 metres wide. The cooling tower had to be moved in one section as the clients were unable to do any fabrication onsite.
The Road Traffic Authority of NSW (RTA) did not believe that transporting this load in one piece was possible, and were reluctant to issue permits. As a result of the route survey that Geoff did himself (which involved measuring every overhead structure en route) he was able to supply this information to the RTA, who then reversed the decision and allowed the load to move. This load was written up in the local Kempsey newspaper as the largest volumetric load to travel on the Pacific Highway.
This is an example of the length that Geoff will go to, to satisfy his customer’s needs. Nothing is too much trouble.
